Raised in Illinois/Missouri/Oklahoma I was fortunate enough to spend the summers of my teens traveling the country. I absorbed the scenery and sensations native to the vastly different regions of the United States. I believe that these travels, coupled with my life-long fascination with wildlife and my obsession with sketching, fueled my desire to live a life of creation. The birth of my children only increased this desire, as I wanted them to grow with an appreciation for art and a variety of cultures. Which brings me to the present. I'm currently focused on creating animal portraits, interspersed with pieces that emphasize my interest in the roles of animals in cultural mythologies from the Americas & around the world.
My style ranges from an illustrative/representational realism to symbolism.
I love acrylic on canvas, though I also work occasionally in graphite, color pencil, and charcoal.
I specialize in animal portraiture & pieces representing the power and beauty of nature and it's role in mythology and religion throughout history.
I'm inspired daily by the beauty of the life around us and I find mythology and Native American tales of creation never fail to move me.
