Statements

For me, painting is a very internal and personal experience. I love painting because of the way I feel while I am painting; the process of creation is what captures me and certainly inspires me. I make no pretensions of showing my emotions and feelings through my art, or from these emerging either. Both colour and texture play a crucial role in my work. I use a mixture of sand, clay dust and acrylic mediums that, after applied, creates randomly heavy textures and finishes. I'm continually thrilled to explore the beauty of colour, for its own sake, and shape and texture to express complex emotions. I am trying to express what is inside; my own emotions, and thoughts, my own spirituality if you like. I want to push my ideas of original textures and colours as far as they can go, within irrational thoughts and emotions.
Non-objective abstract art is difficult to fathom, and this keeps the viewer interested. As an artist, I am intrigued by this idea. I believe that how the viewer interprets the painting becomes the reality for that person. I would be reluctant to interject another perspective.

Styles

I begin a piece very spontaneously and become more detailed as the composition starts to show itself. The process involves layering. The first layers are the most erratic and freeform. An impasto style is used during this time creating thick textures. Dec

Inspirations

Jackson Pollock,Mark Rothko,Man Ray,Willem de Kooning,Maya Angelou,Christina Rossetti,Dylan Thomas etc etc.I take inspiration from anywhere and everywhere,be it a thought, mood or emotion.I love to explore colours and texture, and take these from everyday experiences such as the sky, earth,a rusty nail,a walk in the park.
