This was my first attempt to illustrate a particular moment that comes from a scene in my story, My Adventures by Marffey part I. (This is a cropped version of the original.) Benly, the big ant on the left, works as a soldier in the Honeyvel army. He's a second lead sergeant and considered to be one of the toughest. He used to be a lot tougher physically, but much of it got lost after he got stabbed at least a couple times by an enemy fire ant in a battle. One of those areas he got stabbed was right through his heart (tube like thing near the back of the thorax) and out the other end. On top of that injury, the fire ant that stabbed him gave him a lethal sting. This has left Benly’s antennae severely crooked. Because of this, getting his hat on is a bit difficult. After much hesitation and several failed attempts, Benly hands his hat over to his young care-child Marffey to help him. Marffey is only six in this particular scene. Marffey after seeing how humans wear similar hats thinks Benly would look cool too. My guess is Benly won’t agree once he finds out. I like how his expression suggests how proud he feels to have his care-child with him, but at the same time he's a tad suspicious.
In the chapter this scene came from, Marffey will be following Benly around to see what he does for his job. It's a homework assignment from Marffey's Learning skills class. He will have to write a report on how the day went to turn in to his teacher.
